About the Writer

It all started because I wanted to be bigger than the Beatles. No, seriously. I always thought I was going to be a musician but when that recording contract didn't seem to be in the offing, I found myself working a dead end job with lots of overtime and little room for advancement.

In 2000, I was asked to be a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show where I was one of 10 guests selected to discuss her Book Club selection, Open House by Elizabeth Berg. The experience made me wonder: If I wrote a letter good enough to get on Oprah, what else could I do?

I decided to start working smarter, not harder and I went back to school for my degree in Professional Writing. I learned how to write everything from a note to my kid's teacher to the Great American Novel. I did an internship at the Indianapolis Monthly Magazine before landing a job with the Associated Press in 2003.

Other opportunities followed. I have been an associate editor, public relations consultant and freelance writer for various publications. My work has been seen in many local, regional and national newspapers and magazines including: The Indianapolis Woman, Evansville Living, AAA Home and Away and CNN.com. My ultimate goal is to break into authorship. I have ideas for children's picture and chapter books, teen novels and non-fiction works for adults. I am actively searching for an agent to represent my work as well as continuing to work as a "stringer" for a variety of publications. I also do brochure and literature design for companies and individuals who have a hard time putting thoughts on paper.
